Alcorn's Chicken Feed

Why use a fake name in your stories when you can use a real one? This is a printscreen from the childrens book I'm finishing up on. Miah Alcorn and I often use each others names for restaurants and stores. In Miah's world, "McDonald's" is often called "McPherson's". This time I decided Mr. Alcorn would own a feed store. I hope you like chickens Miah!

  1. Heath,

I think your stuff rocks the rafters, my man. Is there any special software you use? Most of it looks vector based? Do you have any information on your website, or this blog regarding your your process?

  2. Well crimaniddly Trigger!!!, I always wanted to drive a feed truck, but I never dreamed of owning my own feed store! Luckily enough I get along fairly well with chickens... except for a nesting mother named LuLu... her and I don't always see eye to eye. In other news McPherson's just broke their usual quarterly burger sale record this month by selling 2million and 1/2 burgers!! Way to go guys!...

  3. Beautiful! Such a clean and happy world, even the exhaust puffs look like tasty candy.

Are you going with one of the covers we saw, or some other version, or what?

Very, very nice. A fully realized environment, for certain. It's all in harmony. Thanks for sharing.

  10. Fun stuff, here, Heath. This book's gonna be awesome.

I noticed the McPherson's name a day or two ago looking through some of Miah's stuff. That's funny how you trade back and forth.

Thanks for the comments over on my blog, too. I definitely need some help with line quality issues. I was especially rushing on those pieces, so it's good to have someone else's eyes to look through, as it were.

Know any good books on inking technique? That's one thing I'm not getting any instruction on in school, since my school's so computer-oriented right now. Maybe Miah knows of some? (hint, hint)

I don't see anything wrong with this piece, so I'll leave you alone for now. But next time I see a mis-drawn sole on a shoe, look out! :)

  29. I know I'm late to the table, but I wanted to say this looks fantastic! And I ain't talkin' chicken feed. (Well, sort of). And along with the others, I would also like very much to know if this is vector/Illustrator or Photoshop or a combination of the two?

    Keep the inspiration coming!

Great truck!!Despite cartoon style it's a beautifully realized form, with a great deal of information.

    Fun,fun style!

The driver is a character "borrowed" from an Asterix-comic, admit it!

Other than that, I like your work!
